Final Fantasy VII Remake: 10 Huge Things That Could Go Terribly Wrong
10. Changing The Materia System
Every Final Fantasy game brings with it a new battle system, which in turn provides a different method for learning new skills and increasing the strength of the party's characters. Final Fantasy VII was no different. In fact, the game introduced one of the most flexible skill systems in the series thus far thanks to Materia, which could be used to customise each character to a level that previous games in the series didn't allow. It has already been confirmed that there is going to be some change to the Materia system, though there is no word on what that will actually be. At best it will be an evolution of the system so many fans already love, offering new options and improving gameplay. At worst, Square Enix may end up scrapping the whole thing to implement something new. The Materia system simply has to be in the remake in one form or another. Trying to force characters into different classes or changing a system that is already popular a little too much could lead to a backlash the likes of which the game would find it difficult to recover from.
