10. Final Fantasy XIII-2
We move on to the latest game in the FF series, FFXIII-2. The game doesn't quite match up to its predecessor even though it's very different in design. The gameplay taken from FFXIII isn't utilised all that well in XIII-2, ending up with a game that turns out to be very easy. The game really needed a higher difficulty level. The game's story flows a lot better than the original's, although understanding the overall plot can still be a headache. It doesn't help that the developers decided to shoehorn in a cliffhanger ending that, after a recent DLC, all but points to a FFXIII-3. In general, I do like the game, but it doesn't excel at anything in particular. Except maybe the graphics, which, at the end of the day, doesn't count for much. It does have a fun monster catching mechanic, and that really helps freshen up the gameplay, but the game is still relatively easy. It's also supposedly more open than FFXIII, and it is, but it still feels shallow in that regard. It wouldn't matter so much if the main story was well told, but aside from a few decent moments near the end, the story is simply passable. And a shallow world that doesn't bring forth a lively atmosphere doesn't help much.
