Square Enix have, somewhat controversially, announced that there will not be any playable female characters in Final Fantasy XV. The series is generally known for its large cast of playable females, and Final Fantasy X-2 even featured an all-female cast. "The party members being all men was something that Tetsuya Nomura had kept as a very important element of this journey," stated the current director, Hajime Tabata. "He wanted to depict a story in which a group of men, a group of friends, journey throughout the world. So thats something that I kept in Final Fantasy XV." The decision to stick with what makes sense within the game's narrative, regardless of gender disparity, seems like a wise idea, despite the current 'gamergate' controversy. The director has also confirmed that there will be "prominent women" in the game that will be integral to the plot.
