Final Fantasy XV: 6 Ups & 8 Downs

4. Combat Is (Mostly) Great

The camera issues are definitely a problem, but on its own terms the combat is extremely entertaining, largely compensating for that lack of difficult with a high entertainment factor.

The game makes the player feel so capable with such a large array of skills, abilities and weapons, that every play style feels pretty damn well catered for here.

While you can admittedly get through most of the game's fights just holding down the attack button, occasionally dodging and just spamming Hi-Potions whenever you get cut down, the game does allow more skilled players to string together attacks in an almost balletic fashion that's really quite hypnotic.

In this respect the game definitely feels inspired by the likes of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, even if it lacks their speed or depth. Still, it's a major step up from the turn-based nature of earlier games in the series and is arguably the game's best evolution from its predecessors.
