Final Fantasy XV: 6 Ups & 8 Downs

2. Quests Are Mostly Very Samey

This is a frequent problem with RPGs of all kinds, that they struggle to conjure much in the way of imaginative quests. Here, whether you're beasting through the main questline or taking on side missions, it's mostly a case of "trek to a far-flung locale, retrieve a trinket, take on a mini-boss, go rest and cash in your EXP".

While in previous FF games a more involved story helps somewhat mask the repetition aspect, because this game isn't really reliant on plentiful cut-scenes, the sameness just feels much more apparent.

Variety is a tough nut to track in this genre, but considering the effort SE have clearly put into the open world, it's a shame so many of the tasks and missions feel like filler.
