Fire Emblem Heroes Guide: 20 Crucial Tips & Tricks You Need To Know
13. Use Terrain To Your Advantage
Another thing to keep a close eye on when you enter a battle is the terrain and layout of the map. Making careful use of your environment can often mean the difference between victory and defeat. Note the enemies’ Movement Styles and Weapon Types, and try to position your units to take advantage of their weaknesses.
Forests are often key - Cavalry cannot pass through them and Infantry may only move through them one square per turn, so you can use them to restrict enemy movement and allow you to have the initiative.
Breakable Walls are also significant, as they take two attacks to destroy (or one if the wall is already crumbling). This means that ranged units can safely attack melee units who are on the other side of a wall, knowing that the opponent cannot retaliate on their next turn.
Similarly, maps featuring rivers or crevasses allow ranged units to safely attack across the gaps. This can be especially useful when dealing with Armoured Units, which are often very strong but can only move one square at a time. Remember, though, that Flying Units can move freely across all forms of terrain - but they can still be countered using the bonus damage from Archers.
