Football Manager 2014: 6 Opening Impressions That Prove It's The Best Yet

4. Altered Board/Player Interactions

Football Manager 2014 Neg 001 Before the game was released, the FM team promised they would revamp the interactions between the board and the players - they were true to their word. On FM14, when speaking to the board there are many more options you can ask them, while also having the option to leak any sensitive information to the press in order to force them into getting your own way. For example, should you feel the board haven't given you enough resources to sign your transfer targets, upon failing in your requests during a board meeting, you can leak the news to the press and they'll ask you questions in public - putting the board in the spotlight. As expected, it can have a negative effect leading to crunch talks which can lead to a sacking, but nevertheless it's a great new feature that adds to the realism. When talking to players, you can now praise and criticise form and their training with more ease than on previous games. You can also ask more requests of the players in the interactions, and can even request them to sack their agent if said representative is causing trouble with the club - unrealistic wage demands, frequent contract extension requests etc. You can also now warn players they are in danger of losing their captaincy or they're having their squad status lowered. You can tell them to resolve a conflict with a teammate, and you can praise them for winning a monthly, yearly, or goal award, while also giving congratulations for their first international appearance and goal.
