When applied correctly and with the right players, few formations in FM22 work as well as a counter-attacking 4-3-3 tactic.

Disciplined players are a must here, with the key to this style of 4-3-3 being holding position and knowing when to pounce at just the right time.

It goes without saying that you'll need strong, stoic Central Defenders here, and likewise your midfield three will also have to be able to do lots of the heavy defensive lifting. Arguably nobody is more important in this tactic than your Defensive Midfielder and your Ball Winning Midfielder.

When it comes to your front three, they need to be quick and direct in addition to having good concentration stats. An inverted approach for your wide attackers is likely best, and one way to approach this 4-3-3 is to have one wide player be an Inside Forward and the other a Trequartista.

It doesn't particularly matter which side of the pitch features which player, but the Inside Forward will look to get in the box alongside your Pressing Forward, while the Trequartista will join those two while also filling the void usually taken up by a traditional #10.
