Fortnite 2 Season 3 - 10 Tweaks It NEEDS To Stay On Top

3. Lag

Fluctuating ping. Glitching. Whatever you call it and however it manifests itself, irregular connections to Fortnite’s servers can be devastating. In all fairness, though, there are numerous factors that contribute to the quality of a user’s connection.

For example, I play Fortnite on a Switch (haters gonna hate), on underperforming wifi and, for god knows how long, had been connecting to a North American server despite living in England (noooob?). Consequentially, lag has become part of the fabric of my experience. However, even those with the fastest speeds and processors still experience issues. Issues that, if many players are to be believed, aren’t experienced on other popular online titles. So what’s the difference?

Now as a relative troglodyte, I can’t offer an in-depth analysis, here, but it stands to reason that Epic are suffering the consequences of their own success. Roughly, Fortnite hosts 250 million registered accounts. That’s 200 hundred million more than one of its closest rivals, Apex Legends. Translating to an average of around 80 million players logging on a month, it’s no wonder their servers groan under the pressure. With that in mind, if Epic were able to smooth things even slightly, it would be most welcome.
