Gears Of War: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Gears Of War 2
Coming only 2 years after the original Gears of War, which would be unheard of now and even quite impressive for the time, the second instalment hit with much critical acclaim and was well worth it. This game was longer, the scale ramped up to an insane degree, and it really defined each character going forward.
New characters such as Dizzy really helped to paint a picture of a bigger world for players - this former big rig driver was a conscript for the COG, and wasn’t really there by choice. Tai - who seemed like a great warrior - quickly offs himself after being rescued, which later sets up what might be the fate of Dom’s wife.
The Locust don’t just capture you, they break you.
Sure, the dark heavily atmospheric nature of the first Gears was perfect for the time, but Cliff Bleszinski, Rod Fergusson and the rest of Epic understood that this game had to step it up a gear.
No longer was the combat limited to just four enemies like the first, the variety of beast and weapons served to shake firefights up, and all in all, this game was a set-piece showcase.
Also, who can forget that chainsaw duelling made its way into the series here?
Talk about things we didn't know we wanted until we saw them.
