1. Gears Of War 3
It was extremely close for this, but Gears of War 3 took the day as the very best a Gears game has to offer.
Not only is it the culmination of the past two games before it, but Gears of War 3 was a moment in time for the gaming industry. The series that had kicked off the 360 was coming to an end, and it certainly left its mark.
The big tough guys from the past two games were now at the end of it all, scrounging for anything they could get, resorting to weapons from the Pendulum Wars and even growing their own food supply to stay alive.
The Lambent posed a real threat for both the COG and the Locust, and mixed up gameplay more than enough in the campaign. Anya also got to join the fight because this really was the last stand. Emergent holes were a thing of the past, now the Lambent ruled the depths of Sera, they would fire out the ground from anywhere, whenever they wanted.
The campaign truly doesn’t let up, and is the best-paced of all the games. Defending Anvil Gate is a standout scene, which comes not much before the best moment in the series.
