Ghost Of Tsushima: 10 Things We NEED To See
6. Impactful Choices
One of the main ingredients of an excellent open-world, story-driven RPG is the ability to make different choices. The Elder Scrolls games, Fallout: New Vegas, and most notably, The Witcher 3. These are some of the most highly regarded RPG games of the generation, and the ability to make choices and take sides is what makes them so.
For Ghost of Tsushima, this could play out in many ways. The setting of the game, feudal Japan, lends itself so well to the idea of choice and consequence. Maybe you have to choose which feudal lords (Daimyo) that you want to protect from the Mongols, and those you leave behind. Perhaps your actions as the Ghost start to alienate Jins allies, forcing them to act against him. There is lots of potential here.
We saw a scene in the 2018 E3 gameplay debut in which Jin is forced to fight his friend as she tries to kill a monk for betraying her family. Jin decides to save the monk, which provokes her to start attacking him. I feel that the player chose to save the monk and that this part was edited out to preserve the surprise. This is speculation, however.
