GTA 6: 10 Things Rockstar Must AVOID From Red Dead 2
9. Forcing The Player Into A VERY Slow Walk
If Rockstar made it so you can only walk around camp to slow down and communicate with the gang, it showed a reliance on the actor's motion capture performance over gameplay. The game was advertised as a role-playing experience, and there are other systems that support this. However, by slowing Arthur down so much at camp, it feels jarring, and something that you have to tolerate over time.
If they gave the player more leeway, they'd feel more attached to Arthur when embodying his character - rather than have the game almost "take over" during these scenes. It incentivises a linear narrative, when the game could benefit from giving the player total free reign, since they do in most other scenarios throughout the story.
If Rockstar must, they should spare the slow walk for dramatic climaxes such as when Arthur begins suffering from TB.
Slow walking in such crucial areas should be avoided in GTA 6, since that franchise highlights how you are the embodiment of chaos in a whacky and crude take on America. The player should be able to move as freely as possible, and Rockstar need to find another way to deliver impactful narrative moments.
