GTA 6: 10 Things Rockstar Must AVOID From Red Dead 2
7. Outdated Gun Combat
The way you were able to approach shootouts in RDR2 left much to be desired. Different weapon types were closer to reskins than multiple ways to approach gunplay. With the exception of the sniper rifle's scope and arrows, if you shoot with a revolver, it's as effective as a shotgun, repeater or pistol.
Polishing your guns was a welcome addition, but didn't punish you for forgetting, since in the early game any damage was effective, and in the late game you had the small arsenal mentioned above.
It would be pleasant to see level designs that pushed for other weapon use, such as the shotgun for close corridor encounters, pistols when in disguised events, and a sniper when the distance is simply too far. One step further would be the option of subduing guards silently so law enforcement isn't called for.
This would be a far greater improvement to the cover mechanic used, since you were like a whack-a-mole, peaking out for auto-locked damage, then ducking again to avoid sustaining any injuries yourself.
