Grand Theft Auto has proven capable of attracting Hollywood talent in the past, with stars including Ray Liotta and Samuel L. Jackson among those to have lent their vocals to previous games. Multiple reports online suggest that this trend will continue.

Numerous outlets, including fan site GTA6world, have run stories based on the rumours that real-life A-lister couple Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are being courted for leading roles in GTA 6. Although they would no doubt do a bang-up job on voiceover duty, does the game really need Hollywood royalty behind it?

The wage bill to secure the pair would be through the roof, a significant part of the game's budget that would be better invested elsewhere. The Rockstar franchise is one of the biggest brands in pop culture and is now capable of attracting the cream of the acting crop, but bringing in Gosling and Mendes comes across like a brash power statement, a double coup they pulled off simply because they could.

There are so many talented voice actors working within the games industry and many of them would be more than capable of heading up GTA 6 for a fraction of the price, leaving more budget left over to channel into optimising the gameplay.
