GTA 6: THIS Is The Perfect Setting
A Story That Spans Decades
Now, I might be pushing my luck already, you know, demanding three iconic cities to be included in a single game and whatnot, but I want to go one step further.
Not only would it be awesome if Rockstar pooled all these maps together, but it would be even better if we got to play through different time periods in each and watch the world change as a result.
This is another rumour that was doing the rounds, that you'd play throughout a criminal career and experience the world and time period change as the story progresses. It's not something that's unique, as Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption 2 featured time jumps that saw the setting change accordingly, just off the top of my head.
However, this would be something mostly unique to this series. GTA has captured a bunch of distinct time periods before, be it Vice City or San Andreas, but never different ones across a single title. This could link into the idea of this being the definitive GTA for a generation, covering all the greatest hits before moving onto something entirely new.
It could also allow the developers to explore how settings change over time, and ultimately make the map feel more lifelike. This is another thing experimented with in RDR 2, where buildings would be constructed as time passed, and the landscape in general would change in small, but meaningful, ways.
That was already great, and the next-gen equivalent is even more tantalising.
