GTA 6: THIS Is The Perfect Setting

How To Justify Such A Long Wait

GTA V
Rockstar

In general, a play space of this size is essential if Rockstar want to create a game that can enjoy the same longevity as GTA V. Yeah, that title is still going strong seven years later and it only had the one map, but let's not pretend GTA Online was anything other than a total fluke.

Nobody could have anticipated just how popular it would become, and the devs have done a great job supporting that experience and responding to the popularity.

That said, there's no denying that the map itself feels a little bit stale. It hasn't radically changed across the years, and new areas and arenas have felt a bit bolted on, relegated to specific modes. This time around though, GTA Online's updates could radically alter the map and activities depending on the theme, being built from the ground up to support this longevity.

Listen, I don't really want a games-as-service GTA, but having a huge map to accommodate more players that can also evolve with the years would at least be an entertaining way to go about making that more palatable.

Also, while you might be inclined to say "well GTA V lasted this long just fine", it's important to note its map will be two generations old by the time of GTA VI's release.

Rockstar can't deliver the same thing again, and this interconnected city idea would be a proper next-gen leap for the franchise. Likewise, whether intentional or not, with such a long time between sequels, fans are building ridiculous expectations for the next release up in their heads. The extended time between instalments needs to be justified, and an idea this ambitious would go a long way in explaining why it's taken so long.
