GTA Online: 10 Reasons It Was A Huge Disappointment
4. Too Much Grinding
I suppose it's somewhat appropriate that GTA Online is formatted like an MMORPG, given that it's got the same proclivity towards player grinding that most of those games do. As mentioned before, earning money is not particularly easy, and so it often requires repetitiously completing missions, races and selling cars to earn cash, while leveling up is also extremely slow, making the quest to acquire more weapons seem extremely laboured (weapons are unlocked at incremental levels). Though the progress system is a fine idea, it needs to feel like less of a slog. For all of their problems, the Call of Duty games have this perfect: there is a constant sense of accomplishment in the CoD games, be it by leveling up or completing challenges, and this is a great feature that GTA Online is sadly lacking. Also, I can't help but think that 1000 levels of progress is a tad ridiculous given how long even the earlier levels take. A 100 level cap makes more sense to me, and perhaps this cap can be raised to 150 with some DLC or when a certain percentage of the user-base approaches the cap.
