As with a lot of GTA characters, Wade, first appearing in Grand Theft Auto 5, is a parody of real-life. In this case, it's widely believed that Wade is a parody of the Juggalo gangs who are fans of the group Insane Clown Posse. They're well known for their evil clown face paint, Psychopathic records clothing and items and criminal activity.

In GTA V, Wade appears to be very similar to these gang members. He's also the quintessential country bumpkin and he's portrayed as quite slow, but also as a huge resource and help to Trevor, who he is a 'friend' of throughout the game.

Poor Wade gets absolutely put through the wringer by Trevor and his crazy adventures too.

One of the funniest moments is on a mission where Trevor must infiltrate a shipyard as part of a heist. Poor Wade is roped in and ends up getting called for sewerage duty. At the end of the mission, Trevor then finds Wade in his cousin's apartment, covered from head to toe in sewerage and looking deeply traumatised.

After this mission, you can stick around the apartment to listen in on Wade being bathed by his cousin. This includes such lines as 'do my naughty bits cousin' and 'I can't reach there, you're going to have to scrub it.'
