GTA V: 10 Rumours We Want To Come True

8. 2012 Release

GTA V€™s release date has been the source of unbelievable online speculation but the fact remains that R* have been keeping us entirely in the dark on the matter. Resident WhatCulture editor Simon Gallagher recently posted a round-up of the internet chatter on the subject that details a tug of war between retailers, weighty sources and online speculators, each offering different info. Will it be 2012, will it be 2013; my guess is that we just won€™t know until R* decides to tell us. That said, wouldn€™t it be awesome if R*, in their infinite wisdom, suddenly unveiled the release of their new GTA title to be November or December this year? I mean, their marketing of the product thus far has already been pretty unprecedented; they released a trailer way before it was due and they€™ve been drip feeding us tidbits as though we€™re rats in cages. Would a sudden, surprise release generate such a surge in excitement that we€™d immediately run out to throw our money at R*? I certainly would. Further fuel to this fire is the fact that I€™ve read that R* may attempt to get GTA V out early should Max Payne 3 underperform; since their noir shooter has only shifted approx. 1 million copies worldwide €“ and hence underperformed €“ that we may yet see a 2012 release? I€™m not convinced we will if I€™m honest, but hey, a guy can dream, can€™t he?
