Personal Rating: 8/10 The Gears of War series has proven to be immensely popular for a wide variety of gamers since its first game was released in 2006. It is in a style all of its own, as the third-person shooter relies on the use of cover and strategy in order for the player to advance. The game's brutal depiction of warfare alongside its fantasy setting makes it quite unique and an overall hit. It also grew in popularity due to the online multiplayer maps, which allowed users to battle each other and earn rewards. For a while it was the most played game on Xbox Live in terms of unique users; it attracted an almost cult-like following and once a sequel was announced, Gears fans were no doubt already penciling in days off work for its release.
