Looking to expand the core features on offer, Rockstar offered players a little bit more customisation in San Andreas. Lead character, Carl 'CJ' Johnson could have his body weight and appearance changed, which was a departure for the series. Previous lead characters had been 'fixed', meaning there was very little scope to mess around with how they looked, or change the clothes they'd wear. In San Andreas, various RPG-like elements were introduced, such as either visiting a nearby gym to make CJ buff and muscular, or eating the various fast foods in the city by the bucket load, turning the character into a fat, gelatinous mess. It didn't have a huge impact on game play overall, but if recent speculation is to be believed, Rockstar could be interested in making it a pivotal part of GTA VI. Throughout the experience in San Andreas, players didn't really have to eat food, sleep or work out, they were optional, but wouldn't it be interesting if VI featured several 'everyday' elements which had to be adhered to? It's a fine line, because video games are supposed to be fun, and the more realistic parts of life arguably don't have much of a place in the GTA universe, but it could be worth exploring.
