Halo 5: Guardians - 9 Shocking Changes That Will Divide Fans

8. Shields Don't Recharge When Sprinting

Halo's regenerating health changed everything when it came to designing first-person shooters - a fact you realise evermore if you ever revisit the original Halo, which featured a half-health, half-shield combo that needed depleting before you carked it. In Guardians, 343 are changing this up for the first time in 15 years, not only returning the visualisation of your health bar, but making it integral that you learn map layouts and hiding spots, as you'll only get your shield back if you can find a place to stay stationery for a few seconds. It'll completely change the flow of any match as we used to know it, potentially ushering in a mentality where it benefits players to stay in one spot, camping as they take many others out, safe in the knowledge their shields will restore faster than those trying to get away. On the other hand it directly effects the notion of sprinting from one place to another, knowing that by the time you get there, you'll be battle-ready. Needing to essentially take a knee and wait out the recharge is definitely more strategic, but is it conducive to a fun Halo experience?
