Halo Infinite: 10 Ways To Save The Franchise
5. An Interesting Open World
The biggest reveal that came from the eight minutes of Infinite gameplay we got at the Microsoft event was that the game is fully open world, a first for the franchise. Players are going to be able to explore a Halo ring like never before.
343 have seemingly taken inspiration from the second mission of Halo: Combat Evolved, when Chief first landed on the ring.
A fully explorable Halo ring is an exciting prospect, but it comes with its own set of caveats. The biggest being that the ring could be empty. 343 need to make sure that it is packed with things to do, otherwise it all might seem barren.
In addition to this, what the player can do needs to be interesting and not repetitive. A worry is that objectives will just be variations of 'go here and destroy this', and 'go here and kill these enemies'. Objectives needs to be more varied than this.
The prospect of story-related side missions is exciting. Perhaps a side mission were Chief finds out what happened to the crew of the Infinity, or one that sees the Chief working with the Arbiter again. It's exciting to just think about.
