Halo: Ranking Every Game From Worst To Best
9. Halo Wars 2
When it comes to real-time strategy games on consoles, fans of the genre will know that their options are pretty few and far between these days. So, if nothing else, Halo Wars 2 definitely deserves credit for trying to keep that style of game alive and doing so in a fairly competent way.
That said, the game is far from perfect. Missions are about as simplistic as you can get for an RTS, multiplayer success depends more on luck than skill, playing with a controller isn't exactly ideal for the genre's inherent micromanagement (at least not the way it was done here), and the game's main villain, Atriox, had the potential to be great, but sort of fell by the wayside as the story progressed.
However, Halo Wars 2 also had a good number of positives going for it. Despite the sometimes wonky gameplay, it's packed to the brim with high-octane action and fun mechanics. Plus, the cutscenes are well animated, the story is serviceable, and Erika Soto, who voices the character Isabel, did a fantastic job.
It's certainly not for everyone and not exactly groundbreaking, but it's worth your time if you're looking for a decent-playing console RTS.
