Hands-On With Every Major Upcoming Video Game - Ranked
4. Life Is Strange 2
With Telltale Games sadly suffering major layoffs after some mismanagement and a lack of funding, it leaves Life is Strange 2 as the only big budget adventure game in town. Thankfully, the opening segment I got to play was a total knockout, introducing us to new characters Sean and Daniel as they go on the run, following a harrowing encounter with a bully, a police officer and one of their emerging power sets.
Coming off the free Captain Spirit DLC/story add-on, it seems Dontnod are slowly building an X-Men-like universe of individuals, all with specific powers. Where the first season's Chloe could reverse time to redo decisions and Captain Spirit's Chris learned to levitate, here one of the brothers looks to have access to a devastating force blast.
Gameplay-wise it's the same "explore environment and interact with things" setup we've come to love from these games, mixed with story decisions that already feel as though they have major ramifications for how the rest of the game plays out.
Life is Strange 2 is being written in a way that totally takes advantage of its overall buzz in the gaming industry. Hopefully the final product capitalises on this from beginning to end.
