Hitman 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Downs...
5. The Terrible AI
Considering how the Hitman games revolve around the player's ability to manipulate NPCs en masse, it's disappointing from the outset that Hitman 2's AI characters are, well, a bit bone-headed (to be kind).
While the game certainly feels easier and more accessible than Hitman 2016 overall, this shouldn't have come at the expense of the guards having even a basic modicum of intelligence.
In this critic's playthrough, AI soldiers would routinely fail to notice a corpse in front of their very eyes, as well as the fact that I was crouched directly under their nose with my trusty Silverballer.
Enemies and civilians alike also don't react even remotely realistically to dead bodies, which generates a decent wealth of unintentional comedy, especially during some of the more outlandish accidents you can cause while on assignment.
The game's tone is at least silly enough that the lame AI isn't a deal-breaker, but it does prompt the occasional eye-roll when a target's supposedly crack team of security acts like complete dum-dums.
