Hitman: The Dark Past Of Agent 47 Explained

The Return of Hitman & The Shadow Client

For all the good Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2 have done, the games take the narrative for 47 in new and interesting avenues. These are the best playing games of the franchise and Hitman 2 is the complete package Hitman fans dreamt of, but after two new instalments the story is more mysterious than ever.

Somehow IO Interactive managed all this whilst dealing with a separation from Square Enix.

Once again 47 is taking on a number of hits that seem to be connected. After finding this out, Diana informs 47 that he has been taking out members of the Providence. Another secret organisation, levels above the ICA on the sneaky scale. A Shadow Client has been using the ICA all along, pulling the strings in the background, all to take down the Providence. Yes, somehow this keeps happening to the ICA.

In the events that follow in Hitman 2, Lucas Grey is revealed to not only be the Shadow Client, but a much older assassin. Not only that, but he was a clone at the same asylum and even managed to escape Ort-Meyer. Lucas Grey tells 47 of how they were childhood friends, and his escape forced Ort-Meyer to wipe 47s mind.

This all starts to tie up 47s past a bit more, but somehow leaves it open to more mysteries. Then there is one last revelation that comes from the most recent instalment in the franchise.

After they have their man at the end of the game, it turns out that the parents of Diana were actually killed by 47 in a car bomb incident. As to why he did this hasn’t truly been answered yet, but will this finally break up the duo after almost 20 years? 47 seems to know about the assassinations, but for now is holding it in. Over the years of showing more and more of a human personality, it would seem as if he is having an internal struggle.

His affection for a white rabbit at a young age, taking on a bird as a pet and even caring for Victoria, these are all leading to something major for the character. But, to what is the real question?

For that player will have to wait till the inevitable Hitman 3.
