Horizon Forbidden West: 9 Things We Want To See

8. Fleshed Out Melee Combat

Horizon Forbidden West
Guerilla Games

Horizon Zero Dawn had incredible combat, that goes without saying. Ranged that is. The only place it truly fell short was its melee combat. Aloy is a physically fit and capable character, so it was a bit jarring to see her swing her weapon round like she was swatting away flies when it came to hand to hand.

Going forward, the developer can integrate a more fleshed out combat system, something akin to Ghost Of Tsushima. Include a variety of moves, parries, etc., forcing the player to really think about how these interactions are going to go. Instead of simply button mashing square and hoping for the best.

Customizable and interchangeable melee weapons would add yet more variety and allow the player to tailor their experience that little bit more. Make the combat versatile, so it can be applied to both the human and machine enemies.

If they can do this well and find the perfect balance between ranged and melee combat, Guerilla Games would be unstoppable in the gameplay front. Which leads on to our next point…
