How Bethesda Should Make The Elder Scrolls VI

6. A More Compelling World

Although Skyrim was vast, that didn't necessarily make every inch of it compelling. Some of it is almost barren while other stretches lack that living, breathing feel that other RPGs have pulled off so well.

Even Fallout 4's apocalyptic waste feels more engaging during off-the-beaten-track excursions, but the whole living, breathing thing is only part of the problem.

After five games set against a Dungeons and Dragons-esque high fantasy backdrop, the Elder Scrolls needs to shake things up and try something new.

Why not shift the action to a new time period which explores the future of Tamriel? Rather than jumping forward by a few decades or centuries like previous games, switch the action to a whole new age.

There are already signs of industrial revolution in Skyrim, so it would be great to see these developments play out to their natural conclusion, with magic and technology working in conjunction in a brave new world.

This is the kind of bold move Bethesda needs to implement to really differentiate the next entry in the series.
