How Mafia: Definitive Edition Changed HD Remakes

6. All-new Original Score

The commitment to change was felt perhaps most in the audio department as an entirely original score accompanied the definitive edition. The tough streets of Lost Heaven (Hangar 13's take on prohibition-era Chicago) are packed with enough atmosphere to carry the game's presentation alone, but layering the on-screen antics with a glorious noir and super stylish soundtrack elevates the final product further.

Wonderfully composed by Jesse Harlin and featuring jazz royalty Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt and Cab Calloway, the war-time inspired stringed instruments, tightly wound violins and sneaky saxophone tones combine to make Mafia: Definitive Edition an auditory marvel as well as a sight to behold.

In truth, the quality of Tommy Angelo's trips through the concrete jungle of Lost Heaven are more reliant on what's heard on the car radio and during intense cutscenes than how striking its visuals have become.

Fan of ducks, ice tea and escapism. Spends much of his time persistently saying 'I have so much studying to do' before watching Zoey 101 for the millionth time. Thinks Uncharted 3 is the best one.
