Indiana Jones Game: 10 Things It Must Learn From Uncharted & Tomb Raider
1. Don't Rely on the Character We Know
Tough Harrison Ford's unrelenting charm remains, the Indiana Jones character has been largely left in the past. Indy spends most of his time engulfed in history, but the world has changed drastically since the last time he was the centre of attention, so even he has to get with the times.
This new game will surely bring in new fans, so relying on the magic of days past would make the project feel outdated, as opposed to nostalgic. Tomb Raider (2013) revitalised the Lara Croft character in a way that was hugely needed, shining a light on her most interesting traits and removing the ones that made her an archetype.
The recent trilogy of games wields the definitive iteration of the character, which is a bold statement considering how Lara's always been an essential pillar of modern video game character creation.
It'd be easy to regurgitate the same Indiana Jones as films past, but in dong so he would quickly become a relic of a time forgot, not unlike the ones he spends his time hunting. Indy doesn't necessarily need such a harsh reboot, but tweaking the character to suit 21st century audiences would be wise.
