Indiana Jones Game: 10 Things It Must Learn From Uncharted & Tomb Raider

8. Don't Overthink It

Indiana Jones never claimed to be anything other than a thoroughly entertaining romp through ancient history and evil baddies following a dashing and daring protagonist, and MachineGames would do well to remember that the Lucasfilm franchise is exactly that.

There's absolutely a market for moustache-twirling intellectual stories, but revitalising the Indiana Jones character is about understanding why people flocked to the films through the 1980's to begin with: they're fun.

Uncharted knows its success comes from a rip-roaring adventure that plasters a smile on our face throughout, which differs it greatly from the emotionally heavy The Last of Us franchise Naughty Dog also created. The former is light-hearted by nature and the other makes you question the morality of mowing down countless enemies on a doomed journey towards contentment.

Indiana Jones mimics the former. The character isn't as primed for compelling arguments of morality like Naughty Dog's latest title was capable of, so keeping it light and enjoyable will surely be enough to justify a sequel. That's not to say the inevitable follow-up won't be made better by a layer of seriousness, but the character's reintroduction to the gaming scene should appeal to the fun to be had in the franchise.
