Injustice 2 Vs. Tekken 7 - Which Game Is Better?

8. Story Mode

Interestingly, whilst Tekken has always featured cutscenes and plenty of character love, T7 is the first time Namco have done a proper 'Story Mode' in a similar vein to NetherRealm's past three titles. Sadly though, and even though Tekken has become known for its OTT and quirky charms over the years, it ultimately just isn't satisfying to play through.

The much talked-about 'mysteries' behind both the Mishima bloodline's devil gene and how it ties into Street Fighter's Akuma are threadbare at best, with the main question of "What actually is this gene?" being left for presumably, Tekken 8. The entire thing is delivered with a truly lifeless tone, its blend of stagnant narration mixing with ridiculous anime-influenced set-pieces where characters endure various explosions or fatal blows, only to remain standing.

It shoots for epic, but with bad dialogue, naff script, awful pacing and - save for the final battle - zero memorable beats that actually hit home, sadly, Tekken 7's story is a complete failure.

Thankfully, Injustice 2 is the total opposite. Continuing where the first game left off, we still have alternate reality Superman favouring the notion of killing and dictatorship, over Batman's imprisonment, court trials and judicial processing. These polarising world views are extremely fun to pick apart, and as the narrative filters this messaging through a world-defending duel against intergalactic villain, Brainiac, ultimately its a love letter to DC's best characters in a way that exceeds everything Warner Bros. have put out on the silver screen.

Yes, even Wonder Woman.

Winner: Injustice 2
