Injustice 2 Vs. Tekken 7 - Which Game Is Better?
1. Does It Progress The Genre?
Ultimately, discerning which is the better game comes down to which feels like the most progressive and worthwhile over time. Tekken 7 is - and I really am boiling this down to the most core of mechanics - "Just more Tekken". Yes, we've got a story mode and fancier arena transitions, but it doesn't hold a candle to the levels of cerebral gymnastics Injustice 2 has at the core.
Meter-burned special attacks, advanced dodges, counters and 'Clashes' (where players 'bet' chunks of their meters to regain health), Supermoves, environmental interaction and yes, arena transitions - all of which can be chopped, changed and mastered, based on equipment loadouts.
Even the Multiverse mode is a randomly-generated series of fights with light story elements, free labelled as 'DLC-only' characters to try out and stage-specific obstacles to factor in. As a great way of showcasing potential, NetherRealm very recently had one of the mode's planets replicate the battles from 2017's Wonder Woman, the reward being a unique movie skin.
It gives Injustice a modern, progressive feel that shows how a fighting game can extend to being a platform for plug-in content, serving a thriving community, rather than the "Here's the story mode, arcade, a treasure battle, online and a VR gimmick" of Tekken 7.
