While Mega Drive and Super Nintendo owners in 1993 were hop, skipping and shooting their way through Jurassic Park games on their respective consoles, the Sega CD – that shiny black sidecar to the Mega Drive’s roaring motorcycle – had a dino adventure of its own to behold.

The CD’s version was a point and click first person adventure which was very much in the Myst mould. Seen through the eyes of a scientist stranded on Isla Nuber, the aim of the game is to navigate this relatively unseen protagonist through swamps, open plains and familiar locations from the movie on the hunt for precious dinosaur eggs. There are puzzles and items needing to be fetched, while in the background a real time twelve-hour clock is ticking.

Along with being a chance to flex the CD’s then impressive spec, this game was an absolute blast; a superb melding of colourful graphics, groundbreaking FMV sequences and crash course teachings in the history of certain dinosaurs. This is easily the best game based solely on the first JP movie.
