Raw Thrills

Wander into any arcade worth the salt on its popcorn back in the nineties and your change would be well invested betting that Jurassic Park’s would be ruling the joint. The sheer joy of strapping yourself into a hydraulic chair, grabbing the joystick and going to work on some dinosaurs was unbridled – until now.

Track forward twenty years and, apart from having teen girls clawing at each other to get onto some kind of bastardised dance mat machine, arcades now boast a full on Jurassic Park Explorer. Inside this vehicle is a JP arcade game that is better than its predecessor in every way.

Based on the firsts three movies, this game has broken from the shackles of being a simple rail gun shooter, swapping the joystick for light guns, in turn giving players more choice on where they are heading and the ability to choose different weapons. The set pieces burst from the screen – the helicopter versus pterodactyl battle is an absolute head spinner – and, in a testament to just how fun this is, you’ll find by the end of a play through you’ve splurged all of your pocket money, but don’t begrudge spending a penny of it.
