Leaked New PS4 Model 'Neo': Everything You Need To Know
7. There's A Way ForDevelopers & Publishers To Exploit It
Sony say that developers must ensure both the basic and NEO versions of a given game are feature-complete, but that doesn't account for performance.
Once you start considering how publishers will almost DEFINITELY prioritise the NEOversion of a given title, it opens up nightmare scenarios where 'basic' versions get further and further away from their more accomplished counterparts.
You need only look to how the idea of patches, DLC and season passes started out as a way to give consumers additional content -yet now exists as a way for companies to seemingly say "Ship it now and we'll sort that later" - to get a feeling of how it'll probably end up.
I completely envision games releasing in states that are fantastic in their NEO states, where the time just hasn't been put in to bring the other version up to scratch. Sony would have to get way more hands on with what's being allowed onto their systems in this case, and I really don't see that happening, considering the amount of curation and personnel it would require.
