Madden 21 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See

4. Less Clipping

Madden 20 Clipping
EA Sports

...clippity-clop, clippity-clop.

Examine the screenshot (from Madden 20) above. In it, two Indianapolis players are attempting to block the same New England man. Seems fine, huh? Double blocking isn't exactly uncommon in the NFL. Then, look at their legs, specifically at the knee. One man's leg is passing through the other's rear end.

It's a mess of pixels, and it's clear that Madden's digitised NFL stars don't have any concept of spatial awareness. Players clip through one another constantly, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and that needs sorted before it becomes a major, game-breaking problem. It's like their legs aren't really there.

The problem stems from something EA call "Real Player Motion". They introduced this as a marquee feature a few years ago, and it's done nothing but cause bugs and glitches ever since. It exposes the fact that 7/10s of a player's physical make up is less-than-solid, and forces them to react unrealistically to contact.
