Madden 23: 10 Things You NEED To Know Before Buying
7. Throwing Has Been Changed
Another of the heavyweight FieldSENSE additions being touted is “Skill-Based Passing”.
Previously, Madden tasked players with picking a face button and then holding it for bullet passes, tapping for quick passes or mixing things up with a floater. Now, there's a brand new "accuracy reticle" and passing power meter to contend with.
It remains to be seen how this will impact your passing plays, and EA language like "catch it with surgical accuracy" does seem gimmicky, but the refined system deserves a chance. Besides, it's nice to see some actual changes regardless of how well they pan out.
It'd be great if this didn't lead to even more overlays and text on the field, but maybe that's wishful thinking. Phrases like, "accuracy reticle" do suggest big painted-on targets to hit. Madden vets are torn on this already, but pressurising QBs into making the wrong decision is part and parcel of NFL strategy.
Again, it's best to reserve judgement.
