Mafia 3: 8 Big Things It Got Wrong
3. Choosing Non-Lethal Takedowns On The Menu
As games have matured and started continue to focus on realistic characters and stories, many players like choosing the pacifist option when playing, preferring to knock out enemies and use stealthy tactics, rather than going in guns blazing.
In Mafia 3, however, the ability to choose between lethal and non-lethal takedowns has to be selected from the ‘Options’ menu.
A gameplay feature as basic as this, something that games like Deus Ex, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Metal Gear Solid V let you decide via a simple button press, should not have to be turned on and off every time via the pause menu. The game doesn’t reward or punish you for choosing between killing enemies or knocking them out, but from a gameplay perspective, it’s nice to be able to choose on the fly, especially when it’s a basic button prompt that activates the animation.
Surely they could have used Triangle/Y for non-lethal takedowns, seeing as that button is only usable when near a ledge or wall?
