Mafia 3 Reviews: 10 Early Reactions You Need To Know
3. Gunfights Are INTENSE
If there's one thing that's received widespread acclaim in Mafia 3 so far, it has to be the game's excellent and brutal shooting mechanics. Although perhaps not as flashy as the slow-motion antics of Max Payne or the wild, over-the-top crossfires you can find in Uncharted, it seems as though Mafia has stuck to creating good old-fashioned weighty combat that packs a punch.
In a first impressions review for iDigitalTimes, Mo Mozuch explained that:
"What makes Mafia 3 worth it is what makes any game worth it - it’s fun. My first extended shootout was superb. I’m playing on the hardest difficulty, with aim assist set to low, and found the challenge to be juuuust right"
Unlike other games, the combat in Mafia 3 is allegedly much more scrappy and chaotic than your standard third-person shooter, intentionally giving you a limited amount of supplies - bullets, weapons, explosives etc. - to make sure you're constantly switching up your approach to encounters.
It gives the combat a natural ebb-and-flow, and ultimately makes every single shootout - no matter how similar on the surface - devastatingly intense.
