Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 12 Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You
6. Jumping Boosts Can Be Chained
Forget physics and momentum, if you land on the lip of a jump/ramp from any angle, you can chain that into a bigger boost overall. This is most helpful on the Excitebike course and parts of Wario Stadium where a string of three or more ramps in quick succession can be landed on in a row - though be on the lookout for things like the Dolphin Shoals' serpent or the undulating carpet in Bowser's Castle, as the game also recognises them as 'ramps' if triggered at the right time.
Ostensibly, don't be tied down to the marked ramps that will give you bigger boosts - hit R whenever you go over the edge of any surface at speed. Just be aware that when triggering a boost, if you're not holding down a direction, there can be a half-second or two where you'll propel directly forward, sometimes taking you straight off the course.
Balance this with characters that have high Handling stats to make the most of chicanes and fast cornering sections.
