My earlier point on combining Gyro Steering with Manual Drift is the easiest way to force better control from the get-go, but the karts and characters you'll be unlocking over time are drastic improvements on the starting roster.

I'll get onto who the best characters are very soon, but put some time into races and cups. Once you start getting better karts and characters, you'll find the game becomes far tighter overall.

Personally I would've appreciated a better stat breakdown when it comes to picking rides and racers, but there is a progression here - it's just in the background.
