Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: 10 MAJOR Issues Team Ninja Must Fix
6. One-Note Combat
Combat is one of the great pleasures of MUA3, and the developers have made a solid effort to make sure every character feels true to their origins and distinct from one another. Whaling on enemies with Hulk can feel very different to webbing them up as Spider-Man or blowing them away with Storm.
Once you've been blasted through a group of luckless minions with each member of the cast, however, you've pretty much seen it all. The game's signature "synergy attack" system, in which two of your heroes perform a devastating elemental combo, is the one-stop shop for all of your combat needs.
It quickly becomes obvious which one or two synergies are the best, and most rooms can then be cleared by simply spamming those same attacks. Your standard light and heavy attacks are almost useless other than for generating more energy... with which to lay down more synergy attacks.
The result is one-dimensional combat which grows stale long before the end of the main story.
It's a shame, because the formula just needs a few tweaks. Reducing the power of synergies, and buffing other ways for your heroes to deal damage, could breathe new life into the kicky-punchy action.
