Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Review: 7 Ups & 6 Downs
3. The Plot Is Threadbare
The cutscenes, voice acting and pacing of the plot in Ultimate Alliance 3 are always exhilarating, but they're all in service of a story that leaves a lot to be desired. The core premise of chasing down the six Infinity Stones acts as the thrust of the majority of the narrative, but there isn't much outside of that. Each chapter is themed around a specific section of the Marvel universe and, for the most part, a specific Infinity Stone - rinse and repeat until the game's over.
As a result, characters don't get individual stories during these levels, which could have been a great addition considering they're often based around one or a set of heroes. There are a couple of surprises in there, and it's enjoyable enough, but there's just not much meat on the bones of this story.
For a beat 'em up like this it might be fine, and what story there is is presented well, but there was scope to explore these characters in even more depth.
