In some respects, this is just one of those things, but in others, it's a complete slap in the face to anyone who doesn't own a PlayStation 4. While the success of that console and the fact Sony exclusively holds the rights to Spider-Man make this inevitable in some respects, the web-slinger not being available on the Xbox One is a kick in the teeth.

Console exclusives are admittedly commonplace, but Spider-Man is perhaps Marvel's biggest character and the fact a series of levels will be devoted to him makes this sting all the more. Square Enix didn't have to do this, and there's no way they couldn't have anticipated the backlash this would lead to.

It ultimately seems like a purely commercial decision, and one that's not in the best interest of all gamers. That speaks volumes about Marvel's Avengers, especially as pricey microtransactions are also a massive part of proceedings and essential for people to get the full experience from the game.
