Mass Effect 4: 10 Features That MUST Return
9. Class Exclusive Powers
One of the weaker decisions that Andromeda made was the choice to make powers unlockable across all classes, meaning that you could alter your character drastically at any time. While it’s often very fun , the more rigid systems of the original trilogy are superior for a long term gaming experience.
In Mass Effect 2, playing as the shotgun oriented biotic Vanguard with the Charge ability is much different than the biotic Adept who relies on mid range combat and a more diverse selection of biotic abilities. Every class is fundamentally different from the other, and provides distinct satisfaction for learning how to master on each playthrough.
Mass Effect games are designed to be replayed, they improve upon numerous playthroughs. Andromeda remains fun on another play, but once you find your pattern, you tend to stop experimenting.
In the originals, you’re forced to find inventive strategies depending on your class, especially on higher difficulties. It makes the level design and combat more fun, as you discover new things you didn’t know the game had to offer.
While aspects of Andromeda’s new approach are great, the class system in the original trilogy should be the basis for future design.
