Mass Effect 4: 10 Features That MUST Return
7. The Mako/Nomad
While there’s some balance that needs to be made from Andromeda’s approach, the decision to focus so extensively on exploration and vehicle traversal paid off well for them.
The design of the Nomad and the way it controlled was enormously satisfying, with the driving significantly improved from the clunky design of the Mako. It’s so much fun to explore all corners of a well designed world, it would feel like a mistake to not continue these elements.
Getting to explore the two desert worlds in particular in Andromeda were brilliant, discovering colonies, caves and carnivorous creatures lingering around the beautiful orange locales remain some of my fondest memories of this generation. The Mako content in the original Mass Effect could be blended together as well, the lingering emptiness of the explorable worlds created a sense of fear from space that hasn’t really been replicated since.
While there definitely needs to be more of a balance with the open world exploration and linear design, the possibilities feel like they’re just starting, especially heading into the next console generation. With more things to discover and more variety, the Mako/Nomad will be essential inclusions in a future Mass Effect sequel.
