Mass Effect 4: 10 Features That MUST Return
5. Political Influence On The Galaxy
The biggest strength of Mass Effect 3 was how all of your decisions leading up to the ending had significant impact on the galaxy and its future. While I’ll always stand by the ending of that game as a perfect way of conveying the horrors of being assigned the role of God, the more satisfying decision making came from direct consequences from your actions and relationships.
In particular, the choices surrounding the genophage rely on so many elements, from decisions in the previous two games to relationships with Mordin/Wrex, to your navigations with other species while trying to resolve the problem.
It felt so intense trying to forge the right world for the krogan, worrying that you would miss something and fail them, and it would fill you with emptiness if you consciously destroyed them. That material is something that could easily be expanded on with the more flexible morality system, making you contemplate every relationship you have and life altering choice you make even further.
While it’s impossible to recreate the apocalyptic sensations of 3, it should return, especially if the series continues building a new galaxy. Having significant impact on what universe you build would be tremendous.
